About SMMA-2025

The Centre for Advanced Functional Materials (CAFM) of IISER Kolkata is organizing the second version of SMMA symposium during 13-15 November 2025. The objective of this symposium is to bring together eminent and dynamic researchers, providing a platform for interaction on advanced solid state, soft materials, nanoscience and nanotechnology. The conference will include 24 invited lectures, 6 student presentations and poster-session. Best poster awards will be given to the students. Four broad sessions are organized namely: (a) Structure-property correlations, (b) Bio-soft mater, (c) Catalysis and battery, and (d) Light-matter interactions. The topics of SMMA-2025, at the frontiers of Materials Science, interface between Biology, Chemistry and Physics, includes Solid State Materials, Quantum Dots, Magnetic Materials, Clean and Renewable Energy, Solar Cells, Fuel Cells, Batteries, Supercapacitors, Biomaterials, Drug Delivery and Protein Dynamics, Green Chemistry, Environmental Remediation, Polymeric Materials, Supramolecular Chemistry, Spectroscopy, Photonics, Strongly Correlated Systems, and Computational Materials Science. The lectures will be attended by BS-MS, MP and PhD students, along with the postdocs across the Departments of Biological Sciences (DBS), Chemical Sciences (DCS), and Physical Sciences (DPS). The conference will be also attended by faculty members from nearby Universities.

About CAFM

At IISER Kolkata, the Centre for Advanced Functional Materials (CAFM) has a special mission to foster collaborative, interdisciplinary research and education in the science and technological applications of advanced solid state and soft materials. With an emphasis on nanoscience and nanotechnology, the research areas of CAFM include hybrid solar cells; fuel cells; strongly correlated materials; polymer and supramolecular delivery vehicles; materials for environmental remediation. CAFM coordinates to foster advanced research towards synthesis of smart materials, structure-property elucidation, device fabrication and cutting-edge applications. The faculty members of CAFM provide research training to BS-MS, IPhD students, PhD scholars and postdoctoral fellows, and conduct interdisciplinary courses on advanced functional materials.

About IISER Kolkata
IISER Kolkata, established in 2006, is one of the seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) created by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to promote quality education and research in basic sciences. It is an autonomous institute devoted to both teaching and research in an integrated manner. IISER Kolkata offers BS-MS (5-yr integrated masters), BS-MS Dual Degree Programme in Computational and Data Sciences (5 yrs), Master of Science Programme (2 yrs), MS by Research Programme (2 yrs), Integrated PhD Programme in certain departments, Doctor of Philosophy Programme (PhD) and Post Doctoral Research Programme . IISER Kolkata has been the centre of research in basic sciences and the departments have achieved  higher ranks in the nature index throughout the years.
